Taapsee Pannu has once again demonstrated remarkable composure when addressing past criticisms. Currently working on her upcoming projects with Anubhav Sinha, their third collaboration after Mulk and Thappad, Taapsee is also well-known for speaking her mind, and her recent interview with ABP News was no exception.
During the conversation, Taapsee recalled the infamous comment made by Rangoli Chandel, Kangana Ranaut’s sister, who once labelled Taapsee a ‘sasti copy’. Despite the personal attack, Taapsee has maintained her grace and refrained from responding negatively.
Taapsee Pannu on Rangoli Chandel’s ‘sasti copy’ comment
In her candid discussion, Taapsee remarked, “Maybe I am ‘sasti’ because I don’t get paid as much as Kangana Ranaut. If being called a copy of such a talented actress is the case, I am okay with it.” She further emphasised her belief in not putting others down, especially women who have forged their own paths in the industry.
For context, back in 2019, Rangoli tweeted, “Kuch log Kangana ko copy kar ke he apni dukaan chalate hain, magar pls note, they never acknowledge her, not even a mention of her name in praising the trailer. Last I heard, Taapsee ji said Kangana needs a double filter, and Taapsee ji you need to stop being a sasti copy.” The tweet criticised Taapsee and others for not acknowledging Kangana when praising the trailer of Judgementall Hai Kya.
Taapsee Pannu on female-centric films
In addition to addressing the past comments, Taapsee took the opportunity to highlight major issues within the film industry, particularly the bias faced by women-centric films. She pointed out the persistent struggles such films face, such as receiving lower budgets and limited theatrical releases. Taapsee called for a shift in mindset, urging the industry to support female-driven narratives equally, as she believes that such projects are often unfairly dismissed. “I hope this perception shifts because there are people who truly have the passion to make a difference,” she added.
The actress also spoke about the growing influence of social media on casting decisions and brand endorsements, voicing her concerns about how metrics like followers often overshadow actual talent. Taapsee firmly believes that an actor’s value should be determined by their skills, not by their number of social media followers.
